History of Shepherd of the Hills

Shepherd of the Hills has a long history, but here are a few highlights that impact us.  In 1995, Pastor Jess Moody was preparing to retire from Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch.  Down the road at Hillcrest Christian Church, Pastor Dudley Rutherford needed a larger building for his growing congregation.  The idea of merging an Independent Christian Church and a Southern Baptist Church should seem crazy by human standards.  Yet, that is what the two pastors, the two elder boards and the two congregations agreed to do!

Since then, Shepherd of the Hills – Porter Ranch has grown every single year and today has over 7,000 members!  We have the following daughter churches/church plants: Real Life Church in Valencia, Discovery Church in Simi Valley, As You Are Church in Reseda, Shepherd of the Hills – Westside in Brentwood, Shepherd of the Hills – Agua Dulce, Shepherd of the Hills – Woodland Hills, Shepherd of the Hills – Pasadena, Shepherd of the Hills – Fremont and now: Shepherd of the Hills – Antelope Valley!  The eleventh Shepherd church will open this fall in Compton!  Where will we go next?
